After Day 2, it took just seven levels for the PokerStars EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo to trim the field to the final 115, all of whom are guaranteed at least €15,000 for surviving up to this point, but one player cashed before the close of play on Day1B.

Shaun Deeb, the Las Vegas-based New Yorker and tournament specialist, managed to earn some extra Monaco fun money by knocking out Bodog Poker Network CEO, Patrik Selin, who had put a €1,000 bounty on his own head.

The hand details: The cut off player started the action with a pre-flop raised. Patrik (on the small blind) called and Shaun (big blind) re-raised. The cut off player called. Patrik, who had A-Q, re-re raised and Shaun then re-re-re raised. The cut off folded and Patrik flat called. The flop came down with K-J-J where Shaun cleverly made only a small bet which Patrik called.

The turn came out 10 giving Patrik the straight and the inevitable all-in but it wasn’t good enough to best Shaun’s Full House. Deeb doubled up to 80,000 (average 34K) and is also one thousand euro richer.

“It was always a going to be a tough day sat next to Shaun and to be honest if anybody on the table was going to kick me out I wanted it to be him,” said the Bodog Poker Network CEO. “I probably should have gone all-in pre-flop to try and force the fold but I won’t be the first to say it this week; ‘that’s poker’.

“I wish Shaun and everybody left all the best and I will be back for more at the WPT Grand Final in Paris.”

Unfortunately for Deeb, he didn’t cash in the main event so he’s extra grateful for Selin’s stupidity generosity.
