While many of us in Britain chortle about America’s perception of itself as being a democratic land of the free – the free who can’t decide for themselves whether or not they can gamble online; the free who can’t even stage home poker nights without being raided by the feds – we should applaud the efforts of those that are trying to democratise the country. So let’s give it up for the University of New Hampshire and e-Democracy. UNH has created an online forum to gather widespread citizen input on the “What’s At Stake?” gambling debate; e-Democracy is a non-profit organisation dedicated to increasing citizen involvement in discussion of important community and social issues.
