South Dakota plugs loophole in gambling law

SDakotaBucketSay you owed someone money, and frankly, you found the whole repayment thing a bit of a hassle. Well, if you lived in South Dakota, you could walk away scot-free if you could somehow manage to lose a small wager with the person to whom you owed the original debt. At least, you could have done so up until this Wednesday, when the state legislature closed this particular loophole. The tangled patchwork of bonehead (but binding) statutes that are already on the books at the federal, state, county and municipal levels should be food for thought for anyone who thinks America will soon pass anything resembling a universal, coherent online gambling law.
