Lawyers drool over chance to sue provincial governments

Further to the story of the blame-game associated with Canadian gamblers who go back on their signed pledge to steer clear of gambling establishments, comes word that personal injury lawyers are positively salivating at the prospect of suing deep-pocketed provincial governments for their failure to simultaneously act as Big Brother, Nanny McPhee and that guy who blocked the Bridge of Death in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Here’s a possible solution: if problem gamblers are truly sincere in their desire to stop gambling at casinos, why not ask these individuals to bear some of the responsibility (and the cost) by requiring them to wear ankle bracelets that sound an alarm when they cross a casino threshold? Or would that require too much personal will, commitment and/or effort? Barring that, will compulsive overeaters be allowed to sue supermarkets for shamelessly stocking their shelves with Double-Stuf Oreos? Read more.
