12% of Americans visited online gambling site last year

MintelStudyA new Mintel study claims that the number of Americans making trips to land-based casinos has fallen 14% since 2001. Of those who did patronize casinos, 27% chose the local option (an Indian casino, for example), 24% traveled to Vegas, while only 12% chose Atlantic City as their destination of choice. But the study reports that 1 in 8 Americans visited an online casino in the past year, a figure that the study’s authors suggest may be underreported due to the dubious legal status of such visits.
