The International Gaming Awards took place tonight at the Millennium Hotel, London where the great and the good of the gambling industry convened to honour 2009’s highest achievers.
Among the online winners at gambling’s equivalent of the Oscars were Ladbrokes, who took the Online Casino Operator of the Year gong; PKR, adjudged best Online Poker Operator and Cashcade (Foxy Bingo) who clinched the Online Bingo Operator prize.
IGT were proud winners of the Slot Manufacturer Award, Bally Technologies claimed Gaming Technology Manufacturer of the Year Award and the iGaming Software Supplier went to Playtech.
Land-based operator winners included Mecca Bingo, the Ritz club Casino for VIP Room of the Year and Sands Corporation for Casino Operator Americas. Andrew Love also deserves a special mention for winning the Outstanding Contribution Award, as well as his message: “The casino industry is all about selling the dream to people who want to have fun.”
After a keynote speech by Harrah’s Interactive CEO Mitch Garber, who insisted the online and land-based gaming worlds can live in harmony and not competition with each other, 16,600GBP was raised in auction for Children with Leukaemia, including a donation of GBP3,000 by Party Gaming, which the Calvin Ayre Foundation agreed to match for CARE international. A total of GBP 33,200 amount raised by the event. Not bad for a bunch of gaming-crazed ne’erdowells.
